Who are badge cards for?
Nursing students heading into their first clinical rotation, students deep into med-surg and specialty rotations, and new graduate nurses in orientation. If you are standing at a bedside with a patient waiting and you need one number, one range, or one protocol, this is the format that gets it to you fastest. Students in BSN, ADN, and LPN or LVN programs use the same set.
How do you use badge cards during clinical?
Clip the whole stack behind your ID badge on your reel or lanyard before your shift. The index card sits on top, so you flip to the category color you need, pull that card forward, and read it one-handed. Most students keep the full 54 on the reel for the first few rotations, then pull the stack down to the systems their unit uses most and leave the rest in the storage box.
The Velcro strap in the box lets you band a subset together for a specific rotation, which is useful when you are on a peds or cardiac floor and only want those cards on your badge.

Do these badge cards help with NCLEX prep?
They are built for the floor first, and that is exactly why they transfer. The cards present normal ranges, assessment sequences, and the nursing action each finding triggers, which is the same reasoning pattern NCLEX tests. They are a clinical reference, not a question bank, so use them alongside practice questions rather than in place of them.
NCLEX Tip: When a question gives you a lab value, do not stop at "high or low." Decide what the nurse does next. NCLEX rewards the candidate who moves from the number to the intervention, and that is the pattern every card on this set is written in.
What makes RN Ascend clinical reference cards different?
